Since 1996, our team at A.B. Mechanical Ltd. has been working on site at Stora Enso, the largest and fastest supercalandered paper manufacturing plant in the world and the first plant of its kind in North America.

The plant itself covers the area of 27,000 square metres (over three football fields) and its construction was one of the largest projects in Cape Breton's history. We employed over 100 trades people on this project and completed the following jobs:

Installation of stainless steel underground piping

Installation of steam line to the Bunker C oil tank

Installation of chill water system, glycol piping, process piping and natural gas piping

Changed out the MSD piping

Since the completion of this major project, we have worked in shut down operations to perform various modifications as needed. All jobs are completed with the highest levels of safety and quality.

Because of our ability to do complex pipefitting jobs, we won the $11 million bid to fabricate pipe for the natural gas fractionation plant at Point Tupper. Over 360 employees were involved in the fabrication and installation of pipe from our shop in Louisdale, Cape Breton. This multi-million dollar job was one of our biggest contracts in the history of our company.

As the main mechanical contractor on this project, we handled everything from piping pre-fabrication to all the equipment installation, as well as painting. Since the completion of this major project, we again worked on the site adding propane dryers to remove moisture from the propane and completed a plant shut-down in Spring, 2001.
