Our industrial division operates a fully equipped welding shop located along Highway 105, in the Lennox Passage Lite Industrial Park, just twenty minutes east of Port Hawkesbury. In operation for over twenty-five years, A.B. Mechanical Ltd. has worked extensively in the Point Tupper Heavy Industrial Park on several large-scale projects including the complete fabrication and installation of piping systems at NuStar Terminals, the Port Hawkesbury Paper pulp and paper mill (formerly Stora Enso), the ExxonMobil/Point Tupper Fractionation Plant and the Nova Scotia Power Biomass facility. We continue to work closely with the Port Hawkesbury Pulp and Paper mill and have on-site facilities for regular operation and maintenance of the mill and the Biomass facility.
Our regular operations include high pressure steam piping fabrication and installation, water systems piping fabrication and installation, tank and vessel repair, condensate and low-pressure piping, common water and underground lines. All welders are certified under the Nova Scotia Department of Labour and Advanced Education (NSLAE) and the company holds registered procedures for many processes including carbon steel, stainless steel, nickel and chrome welding. Employees work daily to standards under the ASME Sec. IX – Boiler and Pressure Vessels Code, B31.1 – Power Piping and B31.3 – Process Piping codes. The company maintains a fully qualified Non-destructive Testing (NDT) program certified for B31.1 and B31.3 inspections and CWB welding inspection. Our welding program combined with inspection procedures, a qualified inspection technician and CWB welding inspector, and strict Quality Control/Quality Assurance (QA/QC) program make for a complete Quality Management System (QMS) that is the basis for our industrial fabrication operations.
ABM is also registered with the Canadian Welding Bureau to take on projects in the fabrication of structural steel under CSA W47.1 & W59.
The center of our day-to-day operations, the sheet metal shop is located behind our main office at 35 Rudderham Rd., just minutes from the Sydport Industrial Park in Point Edward, N.S. The shop is fully equipped and utilizes modernized computer technology and automated equipment to produce quality sheet metal ducting for our commercial and industrial worksites throughout Cape Breton and mainland Nova Scotia.
Our production team puts out on average approximately 120,000lbs of steel to the many jobs we bid regularly. We also provide services for private and custom orders such as stainless steel countertops and backsplashes, roof flashing, custom drain pans, custom shelving for service vehicles and custom exhaust ducting for residential, commercial and industrial projects. Specialty fabrication can be done at our shop for any of your project requirements.
In the spring of 2015 ABM was awarded the plumbing and ventilation portion of Emera/NSPI’s $400 million Maritime Link project. The project included the construction of a large HDVC power converter station in Woodbine, N.S. to support the distribution of incoming power from Muskrat Falls, Nfld., across the Cabot Strait to the Point Aconi Generating Station. This project will connect Newfoundland and Labrador to the North American power grid for the first time.
